One clear observation since the inauguration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is that many issues have arisen that could have been avoided with thorough policy analysis.
Therefore, to further prevent policy paralysis in Nigeria, it is increasingly evident that a dedicated in-house center or unit is needed to rigorously analyze policies for the President.
Similar to models in other nations, this would ensure that every major decision is subjected to rigorous review and expert input, minimizing the risk of policy paralysis.
For instance, in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, every decision must pass through the Decision Support Center (DSC), where it is reviewed by experts to provide technical inputs before approval.
This system ensures that policies are well-analyzed, data-driven, and aimed at delivering high-impact reforms and results that benefit the populace.
In Rwanda, almost every policy and decision undergoes review and analysis by experts at the Rwandan Governance Board and the Rwanda Development Board. This process guarantees that decisions are informed, strategic, and aligned with the nation's development goals.
A Decision Support Center (DSC) is crucial in enabling political leaders to make informed decisions based on thorough analysis and data. It is not enough to craft public policy impulsively; instead, it requires careful consideration, rigorous analysis, and expert input.
Establishing a DSC would ensure that decisions are not only well-informed but also geared towards solving problems efficiently, planning effectively, and enhancing the overall delivery of government programs.
The DSC would also support professionals and experts in determining the potential impacts of decisions and policies. By evaluating historical data and examining current trends, the center can make evidence-based predictions about how a decision or policy might affect the nation, state, communities, and the people.
At the System Strategy & Policy Lab (SSPL), we are poised to support political leaders in setting up Decision Support Centers (DSC). Our expertise lies in enhancing governance, strategic planning, and policy implementation to ensure that decisions lead to positive outcomes for all.
